Juno’s big fight with Kai and the aftermath

This needs a bit of a back story first…

For months, Juno had been bullied by Kai and Indra, the two ginger Blondies. They gang up to intimidate her whenever she goes into their territory, which is Bunny’s Place. Juno lives in the house with Riley but both love going out to Bunny’s Place for the natural outdoors.

Akira and Samantha don’t bully Juno, it’s only the two gingers who do it.

Lately, Juno, having grown up a bit now, decided it was time to fight back! So, whenever Kai or Indra sneaked into the house, Juno would growl viciously at them and chase them back. Sometimes the fights get very, very loud and scary, but so far, there has been no injuries, luckily!! Juno only does this to Kai and Indra, especially and more viciously, to Kai. Fair’s fair.

This morning, the fight was extraordinarily vicious and loud. I had to break them up by splashing water. Somehow, the rule with them is this: “I get to be aggressive if you are in my territory and vice versa”, but it seemed like Juno had forgotten the rule. She continued attacking Kai even after both had been chased out back to Bunny’s Place. Hence, I had to splash water to break them up.

Thankfully, it was just all screaming and yelling. Just noise. They didn’t touch each other at all.

After I stopped the fight – Akira and Riley are the innocents here.

I’m the winner!!

We managed to get Juno back into the house, but she was riding high on victory and decided to go out to the catio. She knows that the Monsters never bully her, which is true. We wonder if it’s a case of colourism, because they are also grey tabbies like her? The Monsters also leave her alone to wander around. It’s all peaceful whenever Juno goes to the catio.

This time, the moment she went out, something very surprising happened and you won’t believe it….

All the Monsters went to hide in the big cages!! Well, all except Minnie who usually isn’t bothered about anything at all. So, Rey, Robin, Lynx and Smurfy went to hide!

I guess they too got frightened by the loud and noisy commotion which had just happened.

Juno, you frightened the Monsters?? You feisty little thing, you.

We finally got Juno back into the house!

The Monsters also fight amongst themselves, taking turns to be the aggressor. Usually, the aggressor is Robin. Rey doesn’t fight with his brothers. His mortal enemy is Samantha. They fight across Stargate, so it’s definitely just noise and no touching at all.

Phew! I’m done with the days where our warriors, Cow Mau, Bunny and Indy, fought. Those fights also resulted in blood and trips to the vet’s, plus anti-tetanus jabs and antibiotics for me! And sometimes, even surgeries for the warriors. I’m definitely too old for those now.

Minnie, the Asian cat-mum?

You know how it is with Asian human-mothers who will always end up as “garbage-collectors” at meal times? They will eat up whatever that’s left over because they have been taught since young (by their grandmothers!) that they must not waste food – Eat up every single grain! 

I’m definitely guilty of this and still am!

Well, could this be why Minnie always polishes up all the platters of her sons?

Her sons aren’t exactly the cleanest eaters.

Robin’s fear of thunder but not of heavy rain

Robin has an intense fear of thunder, and it’s the thunder that comes before the rain. It doesn’t have to be very loud too, he’s afraid no matter how far away the sound is, even if it’s soft. However, he is not afraid of the heavy rain or the thunder during the rain. Strange, isn’t it?

If there’s thunder before it rains during meal times, it would be a great challenge getting him to eat.

That’s what happened this evening.

Here’s Minnie, Lynx, Rey and Smurfy having dinner before the rain. Where is Robin? He’s hiding in the cage. I put his platter of food in front of him. Let’s hope he will eat it in the safety of the cage.

Ahh…good, he polished it clean. Good boy, Robin. It’s usually a hit-or-miss. Sometimes, he would be so scared he won’t even dare to eat a single bite. Today, he finished up everything. Lucky me!

Amongst the Monsters, you won’t believe who the biggest eater is. You might think it’s Rey or Lynx, being the biggest in size, but no…

…the biggest eater is actually Minnie, the mother. Yes, Minnie is the biggest eater. She not only eats up her share, but polished up everybody’s platters too.  And yes, she’s not obese or big. It must be her metabolism.

It’s snack time now. Robin has come out of the cage and is on the chair.

Nowadays, they have a kibble snack after their main meals. It was during Ginger’s final month where I had to try all kinds of food to make Ginger eat – that is how everyone got introduced to kibble. And that stuck! But I keep it as just a snack and not a main meal. Their main meal is still Cubgrub and raw chicken. Minnie likes canned food too, also because of Ginger.

I’m not as gung-ho as I used to be in insisting they eat a certain type of food. “As long as they eat” is good enough nowadays!

Gerald has another food source

We found out recently that Abu’s (aka Creamy) feeder also feeds Gerald. That’s nice to know. At least if he misses a meal at our porch, he has another food source.

But Gerald NEVER misses a single meal at our porch! It took me quite awhile to retrain him to eat twice a day instead of thrice. He is so persistent in his habits, so that was certainly a challenge.

In fact, Abu’s feeder’s only remark about Gerald is “so, so noisy” and “non-stop”. Yes, that describes our friend, alright. He is still as vocal as he’s always been. Loud, long-winded and non-stop!

His appetite is as good as ever too! He always polishes the platter clean.

Dear Readers and Friends,

As you already know, we will be closing AnimalCare as an organisation once we finish using up our reserve funds. When that happens eventually, all the aid posts will be removed from this website, but my own personal home caregiving stories will remain. I will maintain the domain name animalcare.my and continue writing.

Hence, I have already changed this blog’s banner to animalcare.my – Stories from Home. 

Since there are tens of thousands of aid blogposts to remove, I have already begun the process of removing some of them now, starting from the earliest, in 2009. It is a bittersweet experience for me as AnimalCare means so much to me. But this is a good lesson in letting go – nothing lasts forever and all things must eventually come to an end.

I hope you will come visit this blog from time to time. Your friendship means a lot to me.

Second Chance Animal Society is home to 450 dogs and 50 cats. The society operates a no-kill shelter in Hulu Langat and has saved thousands of street animals since their establishment in 2009. They rescue, treat, rehabilitate, shelter and rehome with dedication and love.

We are participating in MDDB’s Sponsor-A-Dog programme (https://www.mddb.info/sponsor) where we sponsor food and supplies for 35 special needs dogs (at RM150/month per dog) and 50 healthy dogs (at RM100/month per dog) for 2 months. Since MDDB knows best what food their dogs need, especially for the special needs ones, they will purchase the necessary supplies for each dog.

Total contribution: RM20,500 for March & April 2026.

The PSJ Felines are two colonies of cats looked after by Ms Liew Foung Khung, a shop assistant. There are a total of 25 cats (neutered and fully vaccinated) and some other street cats who come and go. Ms Liew has previously applied for our neutering aid for 25 cats, vaccination aid for 22 cats and medical aid for 3 cats. Some cats went missing after Chinese New Year. Ms Liew takes the cats for medical treatment whenever they are sick and she has also successfully nursed an FIP cat, Putin, back to good health.

A message from JoTong: Thank you so much to AnimalCare for the food aid of 25 bags of kibbles and 24 cartons of canned food for our Balakong dogs.

Tong Yut Fun (JoTong) takes turns with another feeder to feed about 165 street dogs in the Balakong area. Every dog that they can catch is neutered, most of them returned to colony (unless the dog has special needs) and managed for life with dedication and commitment. The younger puppies are rehomed, adult dogs with special needs are either rehomed or relocated to spaces which are safer for them and sick dogs are given medical treatment. Collectively, they have got 75 dogs neutered on their own previously and under our aid, 187 animals (mostly dogs and a few cats). She continues to get street dogs vaccinated and neutered now, sometimes sponsored by friends.

We offer our food aid to this large colony of street dogs under JoTong’s care because of her exemplary CNRM work where the dogs are fed responsibly with proper daily clean-up, neutered, given veterinary care, rehomed where possible and the return-to-colony ones are managed for life with love.

Neutering aid for 1 cat in Bukit Jelutong (Khoo Sher Li’s) & Updates

We have provided a full sponsorship of RM80 for the neutering of this male cat, Ed.

Sher Li looks after this cat with Veronica Uhen. We also asked if this cat might have a daily source of food and Sher Li says: He and the female cat look pretty healthy – there are certainly daily food sources, either from residents upstairs or mamak shop at the corner.
